Chinese Noodles and a Sore Rump

I went over to Reiko’s house last night for dinner. She and her mom made hiyashichuuka, one of my favorite dishes. It’s a seasonal noodle type deal that apparently comes from China, and it signals to me the beginning of summer.

We ate and talked and Reiko’s mom gave me a little of the sake she was drinking. I was surprised she wasn’t having any beer. She always has exactly one can of beer each evening, like clockwork, always pouring about a third of it into a separate glass that goes to the butsudan so the spirits of those no longer with us can also catch a buzz.

This sake was from Niigata, where they had those terrible earthquakes and landslides a few months ago. I only had a small glass, though, and went back to my ice water. Some days you feel like it and some days you don’t.

I stood up to go brush my teeth and get ready for some shut-eye and Lili bit me bloomin' arse. She’s a cute little dachshund but spoiled like a celebrity’s daughter. Her hobbies include barking at familiar faces, pooping anywhere she pleases and munching on tomatoes.

Reiko’s mom loves that dog so much so I never say anything.
